this is my preference, and i've used it to clone systems. the
advantage it has over dd is that it isn't tied to disk geometry; you
can ufsrestore on a partition that's smaller than the dumped as long
as it has enough free space, but your dd target better be exactly the
same size or larger - and its reporting geometry will be overwritten
with the src disk's geometry specs, since that's in the dd raw
bitstream.
ufsdump is slower than dd, and has to be done fs-by-fs, but it's
faster than tar, cpio, and all the others. it does devices too.
