I struggled with this for a while.  It appears that the only way to do 
it is to install Solaris, install the RSC utilities, and use that reset 
the password.  

A replacement SCSI DVD drive shouldn't be to hard to find, or too 
expensive.  I wouldn't be too surprised if it has failed from the laser 
diode going weak, or just being clogged with dust.
