Yeah - it works fine. It's real simple to do. With the power off, locate the NVRAM chip, it's a black module-looking chip, usually with an orange barcode label on it. Pull the chip out. Remember the orientation - but you can't really insert it backwards, as it's in a carrier with a keyed socket on the board.

Turn on the computer.

Plug the chip back in carefully.

Set the password - this will overwrite the password in NVRAM.

Turn the computer off, and turn it back on. Now you know the password, you can use that to disable the firmware password so you won't have to worry about it again.
