It should work without the battery by plugging in the AC.  If not, if  
I'm not mis-remembering, you may need to replace the battery backup  
for the ROM (or is it NVRAM?).  It *might* work if you leave it on AC  
for a bit to get that battery recharged.

It'll take 512MB sticks and may take 1GB.

The Pismo is a good little beastie--it'd probably run great with YDL  
on it.  Maybe that's a cheap fix to Phil's laptop problems. ;-)
