Well, no, it seems that by putting in a pair of 2GB SO-DIMMs you will  
get the performance boost of having a matched pair, but still only  
have 3GB available to the system.

So you mainly have to ask yourself whether the price difference  
between 1GB and 2GB is worth it for improved memory bandwidth. The  
boost is going to be modest unless you're doing a lot of memory- 
intensive tasks.
