To get SFU running on XP Home? O'Reilly even has an article[0]. The  
easiest way to get at it is to use Orca, a GUI MSI tool in either the  
Platform SDK or the Resource Kit (I forget which). Reportedly, a  
simple hex editor works as well.

That's an... interesting solution :).

I've not tried it, but the Xming project page on SourceForge has a  
downloadable something with "putty" in the name. I'm not in front of  
a Windows machine right now, or I'd go see if it does anything  
interesting.
