I'm assuming that since you're talking about 4.3.3 on a 170, and you  
refer to typing F5 (and not just the number "5") you're on the  
framebuffer console... which suggests to me you have a graphics  
adapter too new to be supported in your release of 4.3.3 (or perhaps  
even in any release of 4.3.3).
