Yes, it adds extra overhead. On the other hand, TCP is recommended for 
NFS over Gigabit LAN because UDP packet ID-s wrap so fast on gigabit 
speed that this may become a problem and cause data corruption.

However, this is probably not the culprit here and I have no idea what 
the actual compatibility problem might be. No wonder they have NFS 
Connectathons.
