I'm aware of that.

What I said was that fonts and widgets don't look as nice without the
environments loaded.

The fonts might be a configuration issue, but it is a common one.

For widgets, it appears that when apps that can change them load, they see if
an environment is running, and will not load the needed libraries if it isn't.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to force it.

It would be nice because there are some good Gnome apps that I'd like to be
able to run without the rest of the pile of crud, but they look horrible.

It's not a big deal, it would just be nice.

The fonts, however, I really want working better. Subpixel rendering on my
Son Trinitron is a hell of a lot easier on my eyes when I'm writing code for
hours. I wish I'd known it worked on column-oriented CRTs a long time ago.
