What is wrong with DGS then?  Aside from the fact that it is reportedly
extremely slow.  Try googling "display ghostscript extension".  Of
course, it doesn't look like there has been any work on it for 5 years.

There are other alternatives that may be acceptable to some people.  On
my todo list is to get DirectFB running.  For my purposes, I just want
one full screen hardware accelerated program, that hopefully won't
require too many resources from the machine.  I'm hoping that DirectFB
will be much lighter weight than X11.  For one thing, I want to be able
to squeeze the entire linux system down to 64MB, on a compact flash card.

However, it appears that people have ported SDL and GTK to run directly
on top of DirectFB (neither of which do I plan to use), and have written
window managers for having multiple non-X11 programs running on DirectFB.

So what are your thoughts on GNUstep then?
