Uh... it depends....

WHen we moved a couple of years ago, the borough (think city sanitation 
service) spotted a dumpster in front of the house for $50, and then charged 
a flat rate per cubic yard ($20 or so) for each time we called them to empty.


This was a seriously good deal, YMMV, but it's worth calling around.
