[rescue] Mac Hints needed

First, thanks to everyone for the help. It got me thinking in somewhat 
different ways and
tbat's the difference.

It seems the machine really doesn't like having only an unitialized HD 
on the IDE bus. What I finally was able to do was to use the 8.1 PPC 
disktools floppy image from Apple to get in and initialize the drive. 
Since the CD was still being flaky, I put the iomega driver on the 
floppy and used my 100 mb Zip to copy all the bits for a MacOS 9 install 
onto the hard drive. Now that all the apple drivers are in place 
everything is working well.

By far the wierdest issues I've ever had with a Mac. But my wife is 
going from a 7600/132 with 4 gb disk and 144mb ram to a 233mhz G3 with 
12 gb (a 9 and a 4 drives - it's B or later so slave drives work) and 
288 mb ram. Definate improvement in Netscape 7 performance, shall we say...
