Howevermuch the ISA bus sucks technically, it has turned out to be
remarkably durable, and, in doing so, has increased the PC's perceived
financial advantage over the Mac in the corporate world.  From 1983 until
very recently, any PC you bought could use ISA cards, and, more importantly
to some folks, it could use the ones you already had.   During that same
time period, didn't Macs go through 2 or 3 (or maybe 4)
mutually-incompatible bus designs?  <something> then NuBus then PDS then
PCI?
