A buddy of mine who used to work at HP told me that they purposely
spec'ed the cases to be very heavy, including the addition of a heavy
steel plate at the bottom of the case.  

Reason: oftentimes the server would be replacing an entire room of old
mainframe stuff, and the mainframers were happy if the server had some
"heft" to it.
