These have ridiculously good memory bandwidth.  If it's a tower, it's a
model 95, and if it's a desktop it's a model 90.

Absolutely, it is.  You can replace that CPU (I have a Pentium 166 in
mine) if you want something faster, but that's a really nice machine.  I
once ran over a model 95 with my car and it didn't even crash the disks.
You can run DOS, Windows, SCO, NT, Linux, OS/2 or NetBSD (if you have a
supported disksubsystem).  There are more in that list, but those are the
most popular.
