Ideally, a network aware power switch could be a zero U solution,
whereas a UPS solution as yuo describe would be a multi U solution,
since both the UPS and the computer/terminal server would each occupy
space...

BUT, as you said, you can't beat the price if your UPS has some form of
serial management (as you describe). Of course, if your terminal
server/computer that "drives" the UPS gets stuck, you need to visit the
hardware...
