When I was over at the dot bomb I used to work for, we were
investigating storage solutions. Our engineers were cranking out data
faster than we could find a place to put it so it was pretty much
getting down between EMC and NetApp. I was leery of EMC from the getgo
due to the high pricing (the word "high" is not a strong enough
adjective).

Since we were an intellectual property company, security was
everything. Vendors were not allowed to have direct lines into our
equipment, and this is something EMC insisted on having. They could
only give us their word that they wouldn't access our data, even though
they had the ability to. No good. We went around and around with them
trying to get an agreement without the 24/7 monitoring and they
wouldn't work with us on that so we got the NetApp and never looked
back.
