These are the SX19171WC drives? I've used them as internal boot disks on
Suns before, with no changes. I'm suspicious of the RSM part of the
equation.

If you can find the 0024 firmware and a scsi firmware writer, that will
probably reduce the variables (and it will also make the drives usable in
a Netapp). 

Do you have another drive enclosure that's pure single-ended non-diff, to
test them in?
