Wasn't there a recent thread about people interfacing the Dallas/Maxim
iTouch one wire sensors to a box?  That would be pretty much plug and play,
and you'd get a more suitable silicon-based temperature sensor.
(Thermocouple isn't really the optimum device for this kind of measurement.)
