Be sure that you have the last kind of brackets, or the special kit that 
Sun issued. The SSA was subject to vibration problems (see" track 
following" errors in Sunsolve) when full and very  active.

As I recall the kit was basically a piece of hard foamy rubber which sat 
in the recess of the lever, and which forced it outwards, thus 
increasing the overall tension the disk was under.

Also, a tip.  Have you tried removing the front panel?  there is a catch 
at the bottom which is usually really hard open. If you pull on the 
front panel at the bottom left or bottom right whilst operating the 
catch, it comes off much easier.
