No point having monitors hanging off the servers. All of them hang off of
a Livingston/Lucent Portmaster, along with a Wyse-150 terminal. I can
telnet into the PM for normal console access, or go directly to the
terminal if everything has been downed. I'm working on racking everything
but in the mean while most of it it just on shelves.
My desk has 3 monitors (1x21", 2x20") on it. It's a solid-core commercial
door, 7'x3'. I screwed 2x4's in on the bottom, cross braced, and then
added 4 metal legs. It's amazingly sturdy given how easy it is to move
and set up. I really have no need for monitors on any other system than
the workstations (one per household member) though that would change if I
had any graphics powerhouse servers.
Terminal servers can save you a lot of space and power that would be taken
up by monitors.
