[rescue] Booting an X-terminal

Folks-

I haven't tried to fire up my X terminal since I moved here to Seattle 8
months ago, and now I find that it won't.

The terminal is an HP 700RX, which is similar to some later HP units with
names like Entria, Nutria, or summat like that.

I'm trying to bot it off the same Sparc LX from which it used to boot fine.

Actually, it boots fine now, but instead of getting a real Sun DT desktop on
the screen, I just get the coarse grey X-term background and the "X" cursor.

Of course, I haven't changed anything. The HP's IP address is 192.168.0.51,
and the LX's name is "rtfm". All the boot files on the LX seem OK, and I get
no error messages on the HP's screen.

I did run a snoop to see if anything obvious was amiss, and I don't see
anything obvious. There are a couple of places like this, though ....

4332   0.04460 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Read
"/usr/lib/X11/700X/bin/hpxt1.modules.ld" (octet)
4333   1.98955 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Read
"/usr/lib/X11/700X/bin/hpxt1.modules.ld" (octet)
4334   1.04364         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Error: access violation
4335   0.06791 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Read
"/usr/lib/X11/700X/bin/192.168.0.51.modules.ld" (octet)
4336   1.93037         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Error: access violation
4337   0.00113 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         ICMP Destination unreachable
(Bad port)
4338   0.05674 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Read
"/usr/lib/X11/700X/bin/192.168.0.51.modules.ld" (octet)
4339   0.94231         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Error: access violation
4340   0.06904 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Read
"/usr/lib/X11/700X/bin/modules.ld" (octet)
4341   0.03580         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 1 (512 bytes)

... where it looks like it's asking for specific files, and, not finding
them, then asks for (and gets) the generic ones.

There are also, in mid transfer, a couple of places like this ....

4732   0.00132         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 101 (512 bytes)
4733   0.00310 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Ack  block 101
4734   0.00105         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 102 (512 bytes)
4735   0.00263         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Error: access violation
4736   0.00081 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Ack  block 102
4737   0.00073 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         ICMP Destination unreachable
(Bad port)
4738   0.00094         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 103 (512 bytes)
4739   0.00314 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Ack  block 103
4740   0.00133         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 104 (512 bytes)
4741   0.00312 192.168.0.51 -> rtfm         TFTP Ack  block 104
4742   0.00116         rtfm -> 192.168.0.51 TFTP Data block 105 (512 bytes)

Which looks a bit more suspicious, but it seems to have recovered, since it
carried on.

There's nothing odd at the end of the TFTP transfer, it asks for and gets
"/usr/lib/X11/700X//fonts/misc/cursor.snf" without incident, then just sits
there with the grey screen.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on where to look, what to look for, etc.

Thanks.
