[rescue] AIX Newbie

Well, I finally got my first RS/6000 (a headless 7011/250 pizza box from a
list-member). And, thanks to another list-member, I have AIX. I'm
happy. I'm also very clueless.

There seems to be no 7011 documentation on ibm.com, which sucks, and I
can't seem to get a serial connection between my PC and it--I'm assuming
9600,8,N,1 with a null-modem cable. I've tried a cross-over cable (just
the data leads) as well. I'm assuming that S1 is the console port. I've
tried software, hardware, and no flow control.

I wish I were at least getting line noise. It appears to POST fine,
though. It seeks the floppy drive several times late into the POST, so it
looks like it wants to boot. After a while it gives up and spits "262" on
the diagnostic readout, which I can only assume means "I can't boot without
a bootable medium, dummy."

Anyway, my big question is: "Could somebody recommend a web site for
newbies to the RS/6000 family?" Also, if anyone has PDFs of the docs for
the 7011/250, I'd be impossibly happy to get a URL. :)

I'm already impressed by how small and quiet this machine is (although it
probably won't be as quiet when I hand it a fixed disc). How impressed
will I be with its performance as a "I wanna learn AIX because all the
gov't sysadmin jobs around here require AIX knowledge, and you can never
know too many Unixen anyway" system?
