PCs do their job. Mine does. It lets me write my java, it sends my email and
it browseth the web. It doesn't require trawls on ebay for obscure parts. It
crashes, but then it's a PC. Macs die (i've managed to kill a mac easily
hehehe), Linux core-dumps, get over it. But the point is: for what I paid
for my PC, I could have got a headless blade 100. Maybe even my free
competition prize 19" taxan monitor would work with it. And my parents may
even have got used to it. Eventually. But I went for a PC. The point is it
that serves its purpose. If it didn't, I would never have bought it. My
sparcstation 10 serves it's purpose as a linux box (suse 7.3) for me to play
with without fear of fecking things up.
I don't see why you should complain though. People have far dangerous
addictions than x86s - smoking, firearms in the house, painting twin pack
paint without wearing a mask, dangerous driving, etc.
x86 has it's place. Otherwise you'd end up with Sun and SGI and others
making vacuous "would-be" PCs to take their place. Think apple i-macs,
rather than the tasty G3s. Some people just don't need multiple users,
security, etc. It doesn't make them "kiddiez" It just means less people
agree with you. It makes life more interesting.
