[rescue] TOD Clock Bit Error with new NVRAM chips?

folks,

i was reading the following two articles:

i tried to send email to harry.regan at usa.net but it bounced.

my question is - does anyone know what the latest on this issue is? 
are we still stuck with "new" NVRAMs?  is there anyway to get older
models?  i have an IPX and i need to buy M48T12 250ns
