The Alpha doesn't care about the integrated firmware. The SRM just
noticed a 53c875, and used it as such (SRM has support for this
chip). And indeed, it boots from this card.

Indeed.

It seems that latest implementations (IEEE-1275 compliant) should at
least behave a little better. That is, if manufacturers can start
thinking instead of producing braindead firmware...
