[rescue] Power supply repair (was: Tektronix XP350 & IRIX questions)

Perhaps I should rephrase to a general power supply repair question...

Ok, So I have two x-terminals with apparently dead power supplies. One's is
completly dead and doesn't click or do anything to indicate life. The
other's blinks the power LED and makes a click sound every 1-2 seconds. I
really want to get one of these working because I need an xterminal.

So, I am wondering. Just in general, when repairing power supplies, what are
the basic steps i go through. I am familiar with basic electronics
terminology....

Any help is appreciated.
