For the past decade, inflation has been about 1.5% (according to
$econ_prof 2 years ago). $500 1990 money would only be about
$500*(1.015^12)~=$500*1.20~=$600 2002 money.
But heck, even $1500 is darn cheap. I pay $2500 a semester, and they
have been talking about raising that to $3500 a semester.
