I've used "window" on BSD/OS, and it also seems to ship with the other
*BSDs. I agree - a pretty nifty program for certain situations. I liked
it's ability to allow the display of simultaneous tasks over a serial
console, for example.

Not sure where it is developed - "window" isn't the best search term.
