I did not say OpenStep. NeXTStep 3.3 was the end of the line as far as I'm
concerned. :(
I didn't know a 715 would run NS but I never saw any trouble with the 712's,
except for the serial interface but there's both a NS and a HP-UX patch for
that. I've run NeXTStep on 712's since the first 712/60-80i's; and I still
run it at home on a 712/80 and on a beautiful black cube(working MO drive).
Of course I really liked NeWS too(yes, I'm consistant) so my opinion may be
suspect.
I think "strange ethernet" and HP go together.
To the original poster, sorry for the silly answer.
I've seen HP-UX media on E-bay. I think that you'll only be able to run
10.2 on the 712/60 but the 715 should be able to run 11.0. The 10.2
Workstation ACE Core OS will install properly on a 712 for sure.

Urk.
ISTR that 712/715's had dodgy ethernet controllers which would periodically
cause kernel panics under NS3.2, 3.3. That - not to mention the marked drop
in interest from HP - was a contributing factor in why HP-PA support didn't
make it into OS4.X.
Other than that, 712s ran NS3.X beatifully, second only to the NRWs...
