[rescue] Just a thought - what would be a good starter SPARC system these days?

You still see a lot of 2.6 in the field.   From an admin's point of view I'm
not sure that there's much of a difference.

A sparc 2 might be best for netBSD, but I thought the LX would run Solaris
8(slowly). 

If you look around you can find a SS5 or SS20 for around $100-$200 which
would be pretty acceptable, with enough RAM.

I certainly wouldn't be concerned with a frame buffer.  The serial port
console if quite effective.  At least until the OS is up and on the LAN.

Besides who would trust a GUI tool that didn't have a curses equivalent? :)

ah - there is the rub - folks I talk to today want to
learn Solaris8 as it is the "latest/greatest" - they
don't want to "learn" 2.5.1 or 2.6 or 2.7 - that is so
"old"....and of course an SS2 won't run Sol8...so the
basic premise is back to what's the minimum to run Sol8....
