I am guessing you don't work with Linux much.  scsi drive #0 is
/dev/sda, scsi drive #1 is /dev/sdb, drive 3 is /dev/sdc, and so on.  The
same applies to tape drives except it's /dev/st0,1,2,3, etc.  Nothing
dificult about it at all.  The odd drive *numbering" problem that you
mentioned *can* be encountered by using NetBSD on some older Sun4c systems
though - but even that can be remedied by a few adjustments in the prom.
