I usually do something like:
(cd /; tar cvf - foo bar baz) | (cd /mnt; tar xf -)
where foo, bar and baz are the the directories in the root that I want to
move. You will probably want to omit those mount points on drives already
transferred, and virtual filesystems. You may also need to adjust your tar
args slightly according to the tar version on your system (man tar).
