YES. Go to Linux.org, drill through a few menues and get to the
laptop archives, you'll see several folks who got various
vintages of Linux running on the HP 800 series...

Keep in mind, while the HD is upgradable, the bios of
a machine this old will probably only support a drive
of 8 gigs or less. Drive overly software will work fine
for Dos/Windows machines. Does it support Unix based
operating systems?
