I worked for Rat Shack (Radio Shack) at one time and we
had to send an expensive stereo to the repair center via
UPS. When it arrived...well....imagine a stereo, one end
tightly gripped in a vise and the other end rotated 90
degrees. It turned out that in one of their centers,
packages ride a conveyer belt two stories in height to
where they are sorted. The stereo fell off the end, two
stories, on to a concrete floor. When the store filed a
claim, we were told it was "insufficiently packed" and
the store had to eat the cost. Bad enough they stoled 2
MHz of one ham band only not to use it. (That's another
story.) Likely, all the small stuff I have ordered never
got trashed (yet) except they like leaving expensive
stuff in the open so the neighbors can take it. With all
the antennas on the roof, the local thieves think I'm
with some clandestine government agency and don't mess
with my stuff. I have friends that worked for them and
what I've read here is nothing compared to what really
goes on.
