Best deal I have heard of for the cards themselves is to go to a conference, 
sign one out for $50 and then don't turn it back in, forfeiting the deposit.

Not sure why any of us would need an access point.  My plan (when I get off my 
ass and make it to a conference to procure cards) is to build a PC based 
router with 10 and 100 meg ether, and a PCMCIA host adaptor.  I need to rewire 
the house anyway to segregate some traffic, and it should be pretty 
straightforward.

For the rest of the world (non list members), I'd recommend CDW or Datacom 
Warehouse.....
