I had that problem with my Indigo when I got it.  I ended up booting
into the sash, catting the passwd file, putting the encrypted passwd
into my Linux passwd file, and cracking it with a passwd cracking
utility.  Worked on both an Indy and my Indigo.  Got them in record
time, too.  Seems no one decided to use strong passwds on these boxen.
