What you need is not a single box that has all the different units
jammed into it, but rather a well integrated unit that has a scanner and
a printer and maybe a fax modem and which copies by scanning and printing.

those very expensive moving components in as many ways as possible.

It also means that if you need redundancy then two such units will give
you redundancy and load sharing on all fronts at once.

Of course all of the half-decent peripherals, including single-purpose
units, are all classified as "workgroup" devices and as such cost as
much as the market will possibly bear.
