The PCI-e x16 slot looks to be full 16x Gen 3.0 which is good to tak
anything you'd care to throw at it graphics wise (null in your case but
handy for workstation folks).

I dunno how the E3-12xxvx CPUs stack up against desktop's equivalent
models. Our production server is running on an E3-1230v3 and seems to hold
it's own in a small business LAMP server setup.

I might look into picking one up, if I can get the Xeon version for a good
price, as a workstation to replace my aging Dell Precision 390. I have a
hardly used Radeon 5770 Mac graphics card that (to my total lack of
surprise) works in a PC too. Might wedge that in too if it'll play ball.

It's stunning what you can get at these price points from Dell/HP these
days, especially if you opt for No OS.
