Superduper might do that.

I use it for backups, and it creates a bootable drive image that I  
believe you can write to a drive, or boot from.

Not sure about a ghost-ish app for Mac though.

I guess you could put a notebook drive in a USB enclosure and use dd.

I bought Acronis True Image for $30 in a local computer store.
