" It's harder than you think. Using the same transmission doesn't mean
" much: back in the AMC days they used Chrysler TorqueFlite 3spd automatic

i know all that and more. i also know there -are- differences in the
jeep ax5 vs. the toyota g and w families, even though both are sourced
from aisin warner and even have identical gearing. i'd probably have
to hybridize a tranny with parts from both, but maybe all it'll take
is an input shaft swap.
" Also: Rear axle, transfer case, powertrain computer...
obviously the pcm would go with the engine; this means a jeep old
enough to not have pcm-controlled gauges. 2wd so no t/c, rear axle
can be regeared easily by subbing 6-cyl unit for original 4-cyl.
a/c - no problem. -everyone- uses sanden compressors. p/s - custom
hoses, maybe tinkering with pressure. maybe i'll just ditch it in
favor of 'armstrong power'. alt - no problem. 12v is standard.
metric-thread sensors for the dashboard gauges...
i did say 'as swaps go'.
" Most of the existing swaps are into CJs or YJs due to their lack of
" computer controls.

" It's easier to just buy one with it installed at the factory.
easier but not cheaper, and i'm on a budget.
" By the
" 2009MY virtually all new Jeeps will have an available diesel ;)
no xjs though.
" (drives a 2005 Jeep Liberty with a common-rail diesel)
and there are no '06, because... it didn't meet emissions regs. i
also think parent daimler didn't want to pay vm for engines when they
have their own. and btw all diesel jeeps came off the like with b05
biodiesel in their tanks.
