The problem with that is that many things are G4/G5 and Intel only. 10.4 is
G3 up, 10.5 will probably be G4 up, 10.6 will probably be Intel only.

iLife 2006 is G4 only. I just went to upgrade Skype for my laptop and
found out it's G4up and all I have is G3s.

What will be a big question is if it would be worth upgrading. Already entire
G4 machines are cheaper than a G4 upgrade.

With laptops it's less of an issue. The batteries fail and become too expensive
to replace. I have more Wallstreet laptops (G3), that run 10.3 out of the
box and 10.4 with XPostFacto than working batteries.

The irony of it, the 1400 (model number. not quantity) laptops I have use
NiMH batteries which just need an occasional reconditioning to work.
At some point they will die too, but the cells in them are easy to find
and cheap. They however only run OS9 and don't have a lot of memory.
