g4u doesn't suck and is simple to use:

Most people have DHCP at home since they use a wireless router or
similar. The only other thing you have to do is run an ftp server on a
machine on the network. This works with not only linux and bsds but
Solaris x86, windows (ntfs, fat32 etc). If you have a funky disk
controller that is not supported by linux it wont work tough.
