Current (the company Google funded) does not use the ham bands now. As
time goes on they will have to. Demand for bandwidth will increase and
there is no other place to go.

This is called the "lobster effect". A live lobster, when placed in a
pot of cold water is very happy. It's nice and cold and the water is
fresh. It may even have a bit of salt in it.

As the water heats up, the lobster becomes stupified and eventualy falls
asleep. It never wakes up and meets it final destiny on a plate.

By the time it could have realized that there was something wrong, it's
too late. This is what will happen with Current's BPL. We'll let the
"ham friendly" version go and by the time we realize that they are
encroaching directly or via harmonics on our bands, there will be
nothing left.

The same applies to shortwave broadcasts, which I understand in Europe
is still used by regular people to hear radio programs, as opposed to
the U.S. where they are rarely listened to.

Geoff.
