Those help somewhat.

The big problem for me is it seems that I need to exit and restart
firebird from time to time because it gets slower and slower the longer
it runs (over a period of days).

I'd be much happier if it would allow me to just run multiple instances
of it easily (rather than having to deal with multiple accounts and
piping the display, etc,etc).
