   At my last job, the estimable Chris DeTore always approached new members of
our beleaguered and quaintly-named Computer Department and sniffed deeply a
couple of times, with eyebrows furrowed in Elmer Fudd fashion. Then he'd
declaim in loud voice, suspiciously, "Smells like 'new guy' around here. Hey"
-- to the new hire -- "New guy!!"
   Given that we had no voice in the interview process, it was our first (and
truest) test of the new meat.
