Don't even get me *started* on the safe space issue.

I drive on the Washington DC Beltway (I-495) every afternoon between 4:30
and 6 PM. [0] It's always the same thing. Keep more than 1 car space between
you and the car in front you will get cut off. So *nobody* keeps a safe
following distance. To make matters worse you get the usual crowd of 'suits'
in '$HUMONGUS_SUV driving like total assholes because they cannot be
bothered with the traffic like everyone else. And then, like today (of
course it is the same story every day) the traffic was fucked up more than
usual on one stretch of road because 3 morons following too close could not
stop in time. [1] I am all for jerking moron drivers out of their cars in
front of all to see and shooting them. [2]

[0] No I don't have a choice unless I find a new job.

[1] And to make it even worse these same dopes are too fucking stooopid to
move the cars off of the road onto the shoulder in *spite* of the 8 foot
high and 12 foot wide YELLOW signs positioned all along the roadway advising
motorists in 'fender benders' to move out of the travel portions of the
highway.

[2] Hey Rob, was that enough of a generalization for ya?

I hate DC.

> The other problem is when you cannot maintain sucha cushion. Like when
all traffic is going 75 MPH with 2-3 car length gaps, and if you try to
enlarge the gap ahead of you, as soon as you hit a gap of 4 carlenghts,
people start comming up to .5 carlength bein you, veering into the next
lane, then back in front of you, with only one carlength between you and
them (so they get the standard 2 carlengths ahead of them). Of course, if
one of those guys jams on his brakes just after cutting in front of you,
there is no way to avoid hitting them. By Illinois law, it is automatically
your fault.

avoid having people cut in front. This includes watching how each and every
other driver near me is driving, and I am not pretty good at guessing
exactly how big a gap each person in the next lane will view as a
justification for cutting in front of me, so that gap typically varies
dynamically from 2 to 4 carlengths.
