Back when we lived in the U.S. and cell phones were still rare, all
three of us had ham licenses and used to communicate via handi-talkies
(hand held radios).
My son who was in seventh grade at the time, started getting attacked
on his five minute walk home by a bully. Since it was out of sight of
the school, they refused to do anything about it. My son brought his
HT to to school and talked to us on the way home for a few days and
the bully left him alone.
The Philly school system had a policy of suspending or expelling students
for carrying a "portable communications device" in school because high
school students where using beepers and cell phones run drug deals.
I told my son to leave his pencils home as they fit the description. :-)
When he had to bring the HT, I told him to take it to the dean of students,
show it to him and his license and explain that he would not turn it
on in the school and that it was an "overriding Federal license".
He let my son keep it.
Geoff.

Carp are bottom feeders, koi are too, and not surprisingly are ferrets.
