to be honest, setting hippi up is only to be able to say i have done it. 
i think it would be rather novel to have around too, but its lower on 
the priority list for me than gige.

i guess that might be reasonable, but from what i understand sgi's 
machines are all real beefy backplane wise. it would surprise me.

no, buying a 20-cpu octane is spending a lot of money. simplifying my 
office this much is well worth it to do it right.

yeah. this is bugging me. i'm planning on buying the new powerbook here, 
and its going to have gige. and my new mac at work will have gige, and 
the cards are coming down too. what i really need is 2-3 switches and a 
router, but theyre so damn expensive that its really cheaper (and more 
fun) to set up one sparc with 2 qfe's.

yup. i get the feeling here when you say 'affordable' you mean in the 
kilobuck neighborhood.
