I used to have a 1914 Ford Model T, and I added an aux 3 speed trans
behind the stock ford planetary trans. It wasn't really designed to be
shifted on the fly, more like select the mode you wanted 1 was a 50%
reduction, 2nd was 1:1 and 3rd was an overdrive. On my trans the 2nd
gear was broken, it wouldn't stay in gear by itself, so I was forced to
drive it around in the overdrive mode, the stock rearend was 3.63:1 but
the overdrive effectively made it 2.76:1 (I'm sorry, I don't know the
actual ratio of the overdrive). Well anyway I've taken that car on a
couple of 'Glidden Tours' one in Frederick MD, the other in French Lick
IN, and on one of them (I don't remember which, was back in the early
80's) I was stopped by a cop for doing 70 MPH! He didn't give me a
ticket, and his reason was "If I give you this ticket, NOBODY's gonna
believe me!"

I really loved that car, shouldn't have ever traded it off. I traded it
for a 1950 Plymouth Businessman's Coupe, and a Fiat Spider. (girlfriend
needed a car, she got the Fiat) :)
